Legacy of Arthas Menethil in Hearthstone
Arthas Menethil - Paladin, Death Knight and tragic hero of World of Warcraft.
Surprisingly, the prince of Lordaeron did not leave a distinctive impression
on Hearthstone. There is only one card made with Arthas, and that's despite
the fact that he was the main protagonist of Warcraft 3.
To immortalize his legacy, I suggest Arthas Menethil as a custom hero for
Hearthstone Duels. He will be the dual class Warlock and Paladin, as a kind of
substitute for the Death Knight class. I'd like to thank Hearthcards for the uninterrupted service that continues to inspire Hearthstone
players.
Death Knight Arthas Hero Powers
Divine Mercy
Divine Mercy is essentially a paladin hero power that allows you to
protect whatever creatures you control. Paladins don't have a
playable Divine Shield archetype, but even without much synergy you can
pressure your opponent or protect your Taunts. Also a plus of this Hero
Power is its cost. In short, it's an infinite Hand of Protection spell, which
would be actually a good card in this case.
Army of the Dead
Army of the Dead is a situational minion removal. This hero power
is versatile, and can help in all kinds of situations. For example, it can
help get an enemy unit out of the way, or turn a 1/1
Silver Hand Recruit into a decent 3/3 Ghoul. Also don't forget
about the Deathrattle aspect, which Army of the Dead is happy to
activate.
Regretful Sacrifice
It is worth noting that hero power will only be available for use if you have
at least one card in your hand. So you'll need to prepare card draws
before you choose Regretful Sacrifice (otherwise it will really become
regretful for you).
Two forms of the great necromancer and wizard. Kel'thuzad was the first dangerous undead champion Arthas had slain (or he thought so). In the future, he would become his faithful companion, who would help Lich King to make way to the Northrend.
Magistrate Bartilas was once an apprentice of Lord Paladin Tyrion
Fordring. When his mentor was banished from the Order of the Silver Hand for
defending the orc Eithrigg, Bartilas replaced Tyrion at the head of
Hearthglen for a time, and then became Magistrate of Stratholm until the
Third War.
The hardest card I've ever had to put in 4 sections in Hearthstone custom
cards. Muradin works like this: in case of excess damage from
your spells, minions or hero, it turns into Attack stat and randomly splits
among your minions. Same thing with healing, but this time it turns into
Health stat. Synergizes very effectively with
Regretful Sacrifice, as the healing can allow
Muradin, Prince's Teacher to stay secure on the battlefield.
Death Knight Arthas Treasures
As we know, each Hearthstone Duels hero gets six treasures to choose from.
Arthas Menethil is no exception, so meet the legendary characters
and things paladin encountered during his adventures to Northrend:
Uther, Exterminator of Orcs
Uther Lightbringer was the mentor and friend of Arthas Menetil.
Together they destroyed many orcs and who else but Uther could have
the Divine Shield ability? This treasure works well with Divine Mercy,
allowing you to almost endlessly buff your creatures.
Uther, Exterminator of Orcs creates so much tempo that not every
opponent can catch up with him. Recommended for all aggressive and Divine
Mercy decks.
Kel'thuzad, the Plaguebringer
Two forms of the great necromancer and wizard. Kel'thuzad was the first dangerous undead champion Arthas had slain (or he thought so). In the future, he would become his faithful companion, who would help Lich King to make way to the Northrend.
The Corrupt mechanic is also reminiscent of the old Hearthstone card from
Curse of Naxxramas. If you fulfill the conditions of corrupt, you will
resurrect all friendly minions that died this turn upon casting the spell
you drew from Kel'thuzad the Lichborne. Quite a combo oriented
card that rewards patience and thinking through your actions.
Magistrate Barthilas
He was killed with his men by Arthas Menethil during Culling of
Stratholm. We can meet him in WoW Wrath of the Lich King.
Given his inherent talent in obtaining a job where he is incompetent, I
think he would make a pretty good Hearthstone card. On his own, he's
not very strong. However, Magistrate Bartilas with a decent
amount of card draw and Regretful Sacrifice hero power can
become something threatening.
Frostmourne
Ah yes, the legendary Frostmourne, runeblade that captured the soul
of Arthas Menethil. Now you can do the same in Hearthstone.
This time the enemy minions will serve the Lich King.
Frostmourne is the spiritual successor to the Hearthstone card
Royal Greatsword, which is available to the Paladin in Hearthstone
Duels.
However, the runic greatsword is not as demanding on the composition of
your deck. You can use it with any hero power and simultaneously take
control of the board as well as build tempo.
Purgatory
Warlock and Paladin don't have a lot of Deathrattle cards on their own,
but together they can make quite a powerful Deathrattle deck.
Purgatory costs (1) less for each minion that died this
game. Together with Army of the Dead you will quickly reach 0
mana. The trick is not to be greedy.
Muradin, Prince's Teacher
Custom Hearthstone, Hearthstone Duels and Arthas Menethil
To sum it up, when I was a kid Prince Arthas and Illidan were my favorite
characters from Warcraft 3. I still remember how excited I was after Lich
King won the duel and wore the Helm of Domination. Years later and I'm
still a fan of Blizzard and the Warcraft franchise.
That's why I started playing Hearthstone in 2014 and that's why I keep
making Custom Hearthstone cards. I'm not much of a Hearthstone Duels
game mode fan, but it's nice to fantasize once in a while.
It won't be the last, but I don't promise it will be anytime soon. The
other thing I wanted to let you know is that with Blizzard announcing the
new Hearthstone expansion Voyage to the Sunken City, I'm going to do a
couple of prediction cards. They will be coming out soon.
