Dota 2 Clockwerk Build 2022
Clockwerk is one of those Dota 2 offlaners who shifted to a position of semi-support during last updates. Therefore, it is worth highlighting the strengths and weaknesses in order to understand what position to pick him.
Alt-tab guide versionClockwerk Strength and Weakness
+ Good toughness
+ Dangerous against melee heroes
+ Can cut off opponents, leaving them at a disadvantage
+ Has solo kill ability kit
- Not the best hero for beginners
- Hard to deal with ranged heroes without Hookshot
- He is countered by rather popular heroes
- Spends much more mana than he can regenerate

Bracer
He doesn't have any overly strong items that combine with his abilities in
Dota 2, so most Clockwerk item builds are optional. In the early game
Bracer boosts your stats pretty good, and after 25 minutes this cheap
thing will be doubly useful. In tough games, a pair of Bracers can
replace other expensive items.
Tranquil Boots
One of the cheapest boots that fit a ganker. When buying
Tranquil Boots we have to understand that we want to upgrade them into
Boots of Bearing first. If at the planning stage it turns out that you
are not the only one who wants to buy them, then I recommend to buy
Arcane Boots.
Blade Mail
I consider this one of the best items for Clockwerk (If you don't buy
Force Staff). By locking an enemy in cogs and using Blade Mail,
you force an enemy to panic and struggle to escape from your trap. Blade Mail
gives Clockwerk everything he needs - armor, attack power and the ability to
become a low-priority target.
Spirit Vessel
Spirit Vessel is a situational item to replace Blade Mail.
It is good against targets that have significant regeneration and that outlast
your assault with ease. Perfect against Huskar and the
Alchemist. Can deal a total of 280 + 27.86% of current health as damage
to the targeted enemy (before reductions) or regenerate up to 320 health over
its full duration. Also slightly solves a problem with the hero's mana.
Force Staff
Basically the only item you need for Support Clockwerk. Force Staff allows you to quickly get out of your own trap and out of combat. Since
almost any support is guaranteed to die under the enemy's focus, it is better
not to count on luck and buy this item. It costs almost as much as
Blade Mail (2200 gold) and they perform very poorly with each other.
Boots of Bearing
Boots of Bearing is closer to the Late Game, but it is assembled from
very satisfying items. If your team doesn't mind, build them after
Blade Mail/Force Staff/Spirit Vessel.
Aghanim Scepter
Aghanim Scepter is picked up as a Refresher Orb for thrill
seekers. You quickly reload your abilities and get a nice boost to your
attack speed for 8 seconds, and then boom! You can't do anything for 4 seconds
and are likely to be killed in that time. I can't recommend this purchase
as a 3-4 slot item.
Black King Bar
Black King Bar is worth buying if your enemy has a huge amount of magic
damage and you are offlane Clockwerk. Basically, we get Magic Immunity
inside Power Cogs thanks to the talent, though we still need to build
BKB
before level 25. Virtually invulnerable to magical damage, Clockwerk can
destroy an entire opponent's plan.
Heaven's Halberd
The antipode of the Black King Bar is Heaven's Halberd. In most
cases we buy it to disarm foes with huge physical damage. Ideal targets
are ranged heroes that we either couldn't catch, or they are trying to destroy
cogs with auto-attack. I recommend buying Heaven's Halbered as 3
or 4 slot if circumstances require it
Shiva's Guard
Shiva's Guard is usually the final item for Clockwerk. It is the most
expensive of the list and gives a bunch of bonuses, which are very effective
if the target is cog trapped. First of all, this is both a decrease in
regeneration and attack speed. Secondly, the active ability gives a lot of
impact in teamfights. And lastly, we can buy Platemail in the
early game, just because it is a lot of armor.
Clockwerk Skill and Talent Build
My recommendation would be to always level Battery Assault first. This is your bread and butter when it comes to laning and solo kills. The second highest priority should be Rocket Flare. They will be handy when scouting territory and preparing for teamfights. Hookshot gives us the option to initiate a battle, so don't miss 6, 12 and 18 level up. Power Cogs remain in low demand throughout the game. Upgrading doesn't increase the number of hits it takes to destroy cogs, and that's probably one of the reasons why no one prioritizes this spell.
We skip leveling first talent at level 10 because +40 damage is more important
than -2 second cooldown. Very few people take the +60 Power Cogs Mana Burn
talent, so there's not much of an alternative here. Next come the
talents, which depend entirely on your position. We take
+24 Battery Assault Damage if we play Offlane Clockwerk. In the
case of Clockwerk Support, I recommend taking
+2 Power Cogs Hit To Kill. With it you can successfully catch enemies
and leave them at a disadvantage. Level 20 talents can also be called
controversial. Rocket Flare True Sight itself can replace
Gem of True Sight and save you money, but on the other hand against
enemies with escapes it is mandatory to have
Power Cogs Leash Units Inside talent. At level 25, I still
recommend choosing Spell Immunity Inside Power Cogs talent. At this
point an enemy carry will have already gathered Black King Bar and your
Battery Assault will be useless in close combat.
Clockwerk Counters and Easy Targets
If you're looking to bash a Clockwerk opponent, I recommend a couple of these heroes:
Huskar is resilient and can fight to
the end. With the purchase of the BKB, he leaves no chance for our
hero.
Undying is eating up our hero and
Hookshot might do him a favor if we stay for long near Tombstone. If you
meet during the laning stage, you're in for some pretty tough times.
Phantom Lancer escapes from our
Power Cogs with a single action. And if he's stronger than us,
he'll just beat us inside our own trap. Battery Assault will be wasted
on his illusions.
Juggernaut can become invulnerable to
magic and place healing wards within reach of Clockwerk.
However, it's not all that bad. We can counter a bunch of heroes ourselves.
Drow Ranger cannot escape from
Power Cogs quickly, and being a very positional hero, dies quickly under the
focus of our allies.
Brewmaster literally cannot use
his Ultimate, Primal Split, while he is under Battery Assault.
Spirit Breaker may also not expect
to be released from our trap.
Windranger is fragile and will
feel very uncomfortable next to Clockwerk. Considering that Windranger doesn't
often buy BKB, we can confidently say that she will be in pain.
Conclusion (Alt-tab guide)
Always level Battery Assault first, then Rocket Flare (and
Power Cogs once).
Play with your team, communicate while ganking.
Use Rocket Flare to scout enemy position.
Pick Clockwerk against Drow Ranger, Brewmaster, Spirit Breaker or Windranger.
Weigh the pros and cons if you see your opponent's Huskar, Undying, Phantom
Lancer or Juggernaut.
